Abstract: Eco-innovation constitutes a strategic approach aimed at advancing sustainability through the integration of technologies, processes, products, and organizational models capable of reducing environmental impacts, optimizing the use of natural resources, and contributing to the mitigation of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. By incorporating innovative practices into business models, eco-innovation adds value to organizations, strengthens their competitiveness, and contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This thesis aims to understand the development of eco-innovation in startup platforms and the implementation of eco-innovation practices in sustainable projects by integrating the systematization of existing knowledge with activities in the carbon market aimed at mitigating greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. The thesis adopts a predominantly qualitative approach, structured into three complementary studies. Study 1, theoretical in nature, systematizes knowledge on eco-innovation in the context of GHG mitigation through a Systematic Literature Review comprising 85 articles retrieved from the Scopus and Web of Science databases and analyzed with the support of IRaMuTeQ software. Study 2 addresses the process of eco-innovation development in startup platforms focused on GHG mitigation, adopting a qualitative approach based on 17 interviews analyzed with the support of Atlas.ti software. Study 3 analyzes eco-innovation practices implemented by sustainable projects linked to Brazilian startup platforms operating in the carbon market for GHG emissions mitigation. It adopts a qualitative multiple-case approach, comprising 15 semi-structured interviews across 12 cases analyzed using the cross-case synthesis technique. The integrated findings show that eco-innovation practices occur through the orchestration performed by startup platforms, guided by eco-efficiency principles and the articulation of initiatives aimed at sustainable projects. The platforms examined play a strategic role in integrating different actors, technologies, certifications, and investments, thereby fostering GHG emissions mitigation, carbon credit generation, and the creation of environmental, economic, and social value. The thesis concludes that the implementation of eco-innovation in the projects investigated, which are linked to Brazilian startup platforms operating in the carbon market, constitutes a systemic phenomenon resulting from the integration of organizational, process, and product practices with external factors related to government, partnerships, and the market. The intensity of this integration varies according to the projects’ levels of organizational, technological, and market maturity and depends on the interaction between internal organizational capabilities and elements of the carbon market ecosystem. The main theoretical contribution of the thesis lies in the proposition of an analytical framework for operationalizing eco-innovation practices, developed through the articulation of the eco-innovation typology, Practice Theory, and Socio-Ecological Practice Theory, complemented by empirical evidence from the three studies. This framework organizes eco-innovation practices into internal factors (organizational, process, product, human environment, and nature) and external factors (government, partnerships, and market), thereby broadening the understanding of eco-innovation implementation in the carbon market context. Furthermore, the human environment and nature dimensions, also grounded in the articulation of the aforementioned theories, help explain how eco-innovation implementation arises from interactions among actors, organizations, the environment, and natural resources. In this way, the thesis advances the understanding of eco-innovation by demonstrating that its implementation constitutes a relational and ecosystem-based process resulting from the interaction among social, organizational, and environmental practices. In addition, the practical contribution of the thesis lies in the proposition of an analytical framework to guide the implementation of eco-innovation practices in projects operating within the carbon market. Applicable to startup platforms, companies, investors, and public policymakers, the framework can support planning, decision-making, and the evaluation of initiatives, while also identifying gaps and opportunities for improvement. It thus constitutes a management tool that fosters governance, coordination among ecosystem actors, and the creation of environmental, economic, and social value, contributing to the development of sustainable projects and the carbon market.

Abstract: Introduction: The ABC Paulista region in São Paulo faces challenges regarding sustainable urban development, where economic and social progress coexist with environmental and public health pressures. Despite its high Human Development Index (HDI) of 0.862, São Caetano do Sul (SCS) is not immune to the challenges of air pollution, given its substantial vehicle fleet and industrial sector. Air pollution—specifically particulate matter (PM)—has been linked to adverse respiratory health effects, primarily affecting children and the elderly. This study aims to investigate the relationship between air pollution and hospitalizations for chronic respiratory diseases in São Caetano do Sul, a municipality characterized by both a high HDI and significant environmental challenges. Objective: To understand the relationship between air pollution (PM10, O3, NO2) and the prevalence of chronic respiratory diseases between 2010 and 2023 in São Caetano do Sul (SP). Methods: This longitudinal time-series study utilizes aggregated secondary data from 2010 to 2023. Air pollution data were obtained from CETESB, while data on hospitalizations for chronic respiratory diseases (asthma, COPD, and CRD) were collected from DATASUS. Monthly hospitalization frequencies were calculated and stratified by sex, age group, and disease type. Statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and time-series analysis to identify trends and seasonality. Microsoft Excel and Google Colab were used for the analysis. Results: On an annual basis, there is a moderate-to-strong positive correlation between hospitalization rates for asthma and chronic respiratory diseases (CRD) and levels of particulate matter (PM₁₀) and nitrogen dioxide (NO₂) in São Caetano do Sul, with a notable long-term association between asthma and NO₂ (r = 0.6295). In contrast, monthly analyses revealed high volatility and inconsistent seasonal fluctuations—potentially driven by the modulating influence of climatic factors (such as winter thermal inversions)—while ozone (O₃) showed weak and predominantly negative correlations. Finally, a historical low in CRD hospitalizations was observed in 2020 (79 cases), constituting a “natural experiment” that demonstrates how social isolation and reduced urban mobility reliant on fossil fuels during the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in immediate, measurable epidemiological relief for municipal public health

Abstract: The delays in closing medical bills are a common complaint among both private patients and those covered by hospital insurance plans. For private patients, the delay is often associated with payment negotiations and a lack of clarity regarding the amounts charged. For insured patients, the process is more bureaucratic, involving a series of verifications and authorizations carried out by the hospital administrative staff in conjunction with health insurance providers, including checks of medical records, prescriptions, and required signatures. This study aims to investigate which Industry 4.0 technologies, within the context of healthcare 4.0, can optimize this process and reduce delays. The methodology includes a systematic literature review conducted in the Scopus and Web of Science databases, complemented by field research with professionals in the hospital billing sector. The study contributes theoretically by mapping and prioritizing 14 Industry 4.0 technologies applicable to Brazilian hospital billing, and methodologically by combining qualitative content analysis with the Borda Count method for expert-driven prioritization. The social relevance of this study lies in the potential reduction of claim denials and administrative errors in Brazilian hospital billing, contributing to the financial sustainability of healthcare institutions and to the improvement of the quality of hospital services provided to patients. This study further contributes to the research line on Industry 4.0/5.0 and Artificial Intelligence within the scope of Advanced Project, Program, and Portfolio Management, emphasizing the role of technology as a strategic driver of transformation and competitiveness.

Abstract: Critical Environmental Education requires practices that engage with the reality of vulnerable territories; nevertheless, educators working in these communities need planning instruments that articulate theory and practice. Although principles such as socio-environmental justice, environmental racism, and the ecology of knowledges are well established in the literature, tools that translate them into concrete planning rooted in the reality of communities are still lacking. Given this gap, this research aimed to systematize a Guiding Framework for planning Critical Environmental Education actions in vulnerable territories, grounded in the trajectories of educators who work directly within such realities. The study adopted a qualitative approach with a methodological protocol comprising two stages: (i) the development of a research instrument grounded in scientific literature, with participatory refinement by the researcher, who also works in urban communities and favelas; (ii) this instrument served as an elicitation device for discussions in activities carried out with 13 educators from the Baixada Santista Metropolitan Region, distributed across two focus groups with distinct profiles: technical-academic (FG1) and community-territorial (FG2). Data treatment combined individual assessments and group discussions with thematic and lexicometric analysis. Convergence of opinions between the groups was found regarding the centrality of education, showing that, despite differing backgrounds and experiences, there was complementarity of knowledges concerning socio-environmental problems, understood across cultural, economic, and political dimensions, associated with precarious access to basic rights and urban infrastructure. Territorial inequalities condition distinct ways of experiencing environmental problems, conferring centrality to socio-environmental justice, the valuing of local knowledges, and the participation of subjects in the construction of territorialized educational practices. In this sense, the Guiding Framework constitutes a social technology rooted in the reality of vulnerable communities, capable of supporting the continuing education of environmental educators, in alignment with Research Line 3 — Innovations and Applied Practices in Urban Planning, while also presenting potential contribution to the achievement of the SDGs, in particular target 4.7, focused on human rights, citizenship, and cultural diversity and target 11.3, concerning participatory territorial planning in contexts of urban vulnerability.
