Abstract: The growing importance of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria reflects a transformation in organizational evaluation and management, essential for organizational performance, preservation, and reputation. Stakeholder pressure, combined with evidence that adherence to these criteria can result in competitive advantages, has driven the prominence of ESG. However, one of the main challenges encountered is the wide variety of variables used by rating agencies, which can cause inconsistencies and uncertainties that hinder comparison between organizations and sectors. With this gap identified, this thesis addresses the question of what essential ESG variables can be used to ensure standardization of ESG performance assessments for organizations, considering different sectors and best practices. By identifying the essential ESG variables, a theoretical-practical framework was developed to enable the standardization of ESG assessments. A total of 579 variables used by the six mains global ESG rating agencies were cataloged. These variables were analyzed using Natural Language Processing (NLP) tools and ESG Expert Analysis, identifying 49 essential variables, which were subjected to market validation to ensure their application in real contexts and to guarantee they are not only theoretically sound. The results indicate that a large number of variables used by rating agencies have the same essence, with many being used to measure similar ESG factors. The research also concludes that identifying the essential ESG variables is crucial for proposing a viable theoretical-practical framework necessary for the development of ESG standards and parameters. The convergence of these variables into an integrated framework provides a basis for creating standards that can be applicable across various sectors, allowing for comparability and consistency in assessing corporate responsibility. Moreover, this approach facilitates the implementation of sustainable and responsible practices, aligning business activities with stakeholder expectations.

Abstract: In the last years, society has been enforcing the manufacturing sectors to have greater environmental awareness for population wellness. It is encouraged by companies to have products in their portfolios that meet various environmental and sustainability trends that cover the use of a Circular Economy strategy. However, companies have economic and operational metrics that must be incorporated into macro environmental and social strategies in order to be supported by senior corporate management. Therefore, the need for Design for Environment and Ecodesign practices from before the start of the development process of a new sustainable product is important. In this context, the general objective of this work aims to evaluate the economic, environmental and social gains of adopting Sustainable Product Development (SPD) considering the Circular Economy (CE) in auto parts companies located in Brazil. The method used was a case study, carried out in one company producing parts for the automotive sector, where a proposal for the SPD framework considering the CE and a checklist were applied that served as a guide for the design and development stages of a sustainable product. As a result, it was verified that the SPD framework is fully applicable considering the proposed CE from the product design stage to the stages prior to production, with the application of the checklist that will serve as a guide for the implementation of SPD practices and reflecting in economic, environmental and social gains as demonstrated in the Case Study proposed in this work.

Abstract: In recent years, there has been an increase in activities related to unmanned aircraft systems (UAS), and the implementation of this new ecosystem has introduced new hazards associated with these activities, particularly impacting the operational safety of air traffic, especially in areas near airports. These activities cause not only operational risks but also disruptions in the flow of aircraft. With the creation of airspace for the management of unmanned air traffic, there is a need to integrate this new airspace with the existing airspace currently used by manned aircraft, raising the possibility of problems arising from this integration. Thus, the necessity for a method to guide the identification of hazards generated for air traffic control activities and for implementing necessary mitigating measures due to the integration of unmanned aerial vehicles into air circulation was recognized. This work aims to propose a framework for identifying hazards generated to ensure a transparent and safe transition process after identifying and addressing the hazards associated with the change. The method consisted of consulting air traffic operational safety experts through a form that presented the hazards evidenced by the literature related to the integration of new airspace concepts within air traffic control activities. The results were organized into the proposed framework, which establishes a guide for risk management activities concerning the implementation of change, organizing the identified hazards. The resulting structure was presented again to the experts and validated based on the Delphi method. The contribution to society is a guide that was presented, not only for this process, but also for future implementations. For literature, an existing research gap was filled, and knowledge was added to the scientific process.

Abstract: The difficulties inherent in the effective and efficient management of hospital solid waste as well as the need to protect local communities and the environment from the spread of infectious diseases and harmful emissions have been causes of great political and social concern around the world, especially in countries developing like many in Africa. In this context, the objective of this dissertation was to propose a framework of hospital solid waste management barriers in Africa. To this end, theoretical/conceptual research was carried out based on a bibliometric and systematic review of the literature carried out in the Science Direct, Scopus, Web of Science and Wiley Online Library databases between September 2022 and August 2023. The results indicate that problems related to hospital solid waste management in Africa are directly linked to the lack of hospital solid waste management policies or regulations, poor healthcare solid waste management plans, lack of research on hospital solid waste management, and the lack of knowledge of health professionals about hospital solid waste management. Considering the data collected in the literature during the content analysis, a framework was proposed the barriers of hospital solid waste management in Africa to build knowledge on hospital waste management standards and establish new guidelines in the health and development sector. in the African context, more conscious actions by those responsible for generating and managing waste in dialogue with current realities. It is concluded that the barriers encountered in hospital solid waste management in Africa reflect the inefficiencies of the waste management system, becoming major obstacles to the development of effective and efficient waste management, including the promotion of public health. and environmental issues in countries on the African continent.
