Abstract: A cultural inclination to resistance restricts the broad adoption of Business Process Management
(BPM) practices integrating strategy, operation, change, and stakeholders in process
improvement and restraining the perception of its collaboration for organizational change and
its processes performance assessment capability, to the detriment of their results. There are no
research efforts addressing efficient benefits realization approach on BPM, which sets this gap
at the core of this problem. Thus, the field of BPM and thus organizations face problems for
successful BPM investments, with significant reflections on process orientation and
organizational performance, standing out the importance of enriching BPM methodological
practices with benefits management principles. To answer the research question “How can
Benefits Management support Business Process Management efforts?” the present thesis
pointed at producing a model to provide benefit orientation to BPM, through a Design Science
Research approach. An artifact that implements the Prodestae model in order to provide the
intersection between benefits management and BPM life cycles, aiming to benefits orientation
to BPM was proposed, resulting in a new model to benefits oriented BPM life cycle. A problem
contextualized from a systematic literature review and assessed through interviews with BPM
practitioners and researchers grounded the statement of propositions that supported the project
and the internal evaluation of the artifact. The accredited propositions attested to the theoretical
and practical consistency of the artifact and the estimation of its applicability, carried out in a
focus group, closed the identification of its relevance. Thus, the research accommodates theory
and practice, in an artifact to guide BPM to benefits and to fill the gap on the field of BPM

knowledge and break the limitation to change management, from the perspective of business
processes. At the same time, it opens space for research into, among others, the effects of
context, the peculiarities of the strategy, and the development of partner networks, on the benefit orientation to BPM.

Abstract: Urban rivers offer a few benefits to society. The advanced process of urban river degradation and its impacts on large cities has mobilized society to collect alternatives from the public power to solve this environmental problem. Since 2007, the Córrego Limpo Program has been contributing as an effective urban and environmental policy that enables society to recover the coexistence in harmony with the environment, minimizing the impact that the lack of urban planning caused to the streams of the city of São Paulo by the occupation of areas of springs and river banks. The evaluation of the activities of decontamination of the streams allows to verify the perception of the society by the sewage removal from the urban rivers, measured by means of ecosystem services. The objective of this research is to analyze the ecosystemic cultural services associated with the process of decontamination of urban streams of the Córrego Limpo Program by the perception of the interested parties. The identification and evaluation of the benefits provided in the decontamination of the Charles de Gaulle stream, one of the success stories of the Córrego Limpo Program, was carried out through exploratory qualitative research, integration of primary data from semi-structured interviews in the field, interpretation of secondary data from the company responsible for the depollution and subsidized by bibliographical survey of cultural ecosystem services in urban water depollution. The results of this research show the association between the stakeholder’s perception (residents, regulators and technicians of the sanitation company) on the benefits provided by the decontamination of the Charles de Gaulle stream and the cultural ecosystem services described in the literature. Finally, it is concluded that the depollution of an urban stream, in addition to revitalizing a degraded area, can promote cultural ecosystem services that are perceived and enjoyed by stakeholders.

Abstract: The use of the Public-Private Partnerships model is growing in Brazil, highlighting innumerable projects in the country in the planning stages, in execution and already finalized. According to the literature, the partnerships seek to achieve efficiency in management resulting in savings for public coffers and improvement of Public Administration. Green spaces, such as public parks, bring many contributions to the population, one of the most important being the improvement of the quality of life, contemplating social and psychological aspects. Among the environmental problems caused by human activities is the reduction of green areas, indicating that the greater the urbanization the greater the reduction of these spaces. In this context, the city of São Paulo reached its goal of reaching the number of 100 municipal parks by the year 2012. However, the management and maintenance of these spaces has become a challenge for public administration, where the solution is geared towards a public and private partnership. In this sense, the present study analyzed the perception of specialists for the current scenario of a Public Private Partnership, as well as evaluated the perception of these experts for the contributions of PPP’s to the management of Urban Parks. One of the research techniques used for data collection was a structured interview with specialists using the snowball method. All the interviews were recorded and transcribed by the author and later analyzed in the ATLAS T.I Software. The content analysis consisted of a pre-analysis of the expert's speeches, and in a second moment, the excerpts of the speech were categorized. Among the main results, it is worth noting that in the experts' perception the benefits of PPP’s are related to an improvement in the quality of the services provided and reduction of public costs, once the risks are shared. According to the experts' perception, the present study points out those PPP’s have numerous benefits in Brazil and also for the park management in São Paulo in the common concession model. The research can help the government to have a better dialogue and transparency with the population, as well as better the quality of services provided.

Abstract: The scavengers, in addition to exercise a profession unhealthy, contribute in environmental actions, to the extent that they collect recyclable materials from dumpsters, trades, or scattered through the streets. And, they contribute to the reduction of natural resources by supplying the recycling industries, reinserting solid waste into several production chains. In Brazil, the actions of the scavengers, was recognized by the Ministry of Labour and Employment in 2002, however, in the PNRS is guaranteed only to those who work in associations, cooperatives or central screening serves the function of scavengers, selection and sale of materials from public and private partners. For this co-participation, there is the Law on Public Private Partnership, which establishes rules for bidding and contracting public and private partners. Thus, with the objective of analyzing how public-private partnerships can contribute to the work of scavengers of municipal solid waste, was performed a study single case, characterizing the research as an exploratory study, descriptive with qualitative approach. The methodology and the development of the research, began with bibliographical surveys on subjects related to selective collection, solid waste and the work of the scavengers; on laws that regulate public and private power actions and discipline the collection and disposal of solid waste and on public-private partnership laws. Next, the scavengers were mapped for the technical visits and to identify the collectors involved in the urban collection and what difficulties they face in order to be recognized. In the data collection, the municipalities of Rio Grande da Serra, Ribeirão Pires and Mauá were visited, in which they used interview scripts for scavengers, scrappers, cooperatives and representatives of the city hall. The results showed the form of organization, the time of existence, the schooling, the difficulties, the conditions of work and health security, the interest to participate in a selective collection program and the lack of support from public agencies in recognizing the work of scavengers. The research evidenced that the municipality has the legal means to implement a selective collection program with the participation of the scavengers, however, it is still necessary to elaborate the Integrated Solid Waste Management plan. As a contribution of this work, it is recommended that the city develop a plan with the integration and participation of all, since the selective collection, sorting and marketing of solid waste, to establish rules for the participation of Municipal Secretariats, promoting campaigns in the districts, raising awareness among the population to participate in the selective collection and value the work of waste pickers.
